WHY do we celebrate THANKSGIVING? |On This Day – 16th September|

Intro: In 1620 The Mayflower departed from Plymouth, England. The ship carried the first English Puritans, known today as the Pilgrims and they were Calvinist Protestants seeking religious freedom from the King of England. When they reached America, 66 days later, they never made any attempts to convert outsiders to their faith, including the Native Americans they encountered in America. The event that Americans commonly call the “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in October 1621 and was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.
